Projects Page Update – We’ve got NAS!

Well, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted anything. I’ll get this Tuesday/Saturday schedule figured out eventually, though don’t think I’ve just been sitting around. I started drafting the write-up for my Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution shortly after my last post, but just been busy with work and life in general. However, this NAS… it’s so cool!

There’s tons of features on it I haven’t yet explored. So far it’s keeping my photos backed up from my phone automagically and offering some redundancy for important files. The next step is to set up some regular backups… My IT friends will be so ashamed I haven’t done that yet.

I guess I need to explain why the NAS has it’s own page as opposed to it just being a blog post… probably silly, I didn’t want it to get lost in the blog archives. It’s something that I may make changes to over time, and to be honest, I’ve added a few affiliate links out to where I purchased the items that make up my solution (big surprise, it’s Amazon).

So for each “project” I complete or semi-complete (for those that may change over time), I’m going to have them dedicated to a page so that they have a little more breathing room, if that makes sense at all. I have a snippet on my main Projects page to go over my Alienware upgrades next, though it won’t be quite as long as the NAS. Simply, it was a much needed solid state drive (SSD) upgrade and RAM upgrades.

Blog/site Intentions

Something else I need to say here: My main goal with this site is to have a resource to document IT-related information, cheat sheets, etc., but also potentially build some passive income by linking out to solutions/products I’ve actually tested and can showcase that they work. I’m no marketing guru and I don’t think this blog is going to make me rich, but if I can write about some cool gadgets or technology that people may be interested in and make a few bucks here and there, I’d say it’s a win-win. Quick tangent: a colleague of mine said he read my blog post on prepping for the CISSP and was able to get a few ideas out of it. He’ll be sitting for the exam in the near future. When he told me my post made sense and maybe even helped his preparation, I felt a great sense of pride from it. So if I can do that for others, that’s what I want this whole site to be about: a place to get the info you want/need to help you, or give you ideas, for you your own projects/tasks.

I appreciate you reading my content (or ramblings, you can say it) and please don’t be shy about dropping some comments below. Let me know what you think of my NAS setup!
